Fire in North Myrtle Beach, multiple homes burned, three people jumped to safety

A fire in North Myrtle Beach this morning enveloped two homes, and caused three people to jump from a balcony of one of the homes.

“They were on the balcony and we were trying to get them to hop down,” Aidia Bryant, a visitor from the D.C. area that was staying in a nearby rental, said. “I called 9-1-1 and they said they were sending people over. ... One guy hurt his leg pretty badly but I talked to the chief of the fire department and he said that they seem to be okay.”

Three people were transported to the hospital with injuries, according to the city’s social media pages.

“The house was completely engulfed in flames and that was between 7:45 a.m. and 8 a.m.,” Martha Maness, a neighbor, said.

The fire is located at 28th Avenue North and Duffy Street.

“We know all three of the people that were in the house,” Randy Maness, a neighbor, said. “They all had burns on their feet, all of them. They’ll be in the hospital for a while, I’m sure.”

First responders arrived on scene a little after 8 a.m. and Fire Chief Garry Spain from Station Two told The Sun News that a live power line was on the ground and that the people in the house had already jumped when the first responders got there.

“I look out the window and it’s ginormous, it’s terrible, I have never experienced anything like that so close before,” Ethan Hinkle, another person staying in the nearby rental, said. “What was even more traumatizing were the people on the ground, seeing all of their injuries and everything. .. The wind was picking up and it was spreading to other houses, so we did come outside and we were yelled at to go back inside and we didn’t think for our own safety that was a good idea.”
