400-acre fire in Loris area is now contained. Here’s what you need to know

An outdoor fire that spread to 400 acres in Loris has been contained as of Sunday, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

HCFR was sent to an area of Carolina Road in Green Sea at 12:52 p.m. Saturday. The fire was described as “fast-moving” on Twitter by Anthony Casey, HCFR’s public information officer.

Casey also wrote that there were no reported injuries nor damaged structures but that smoke may be visible to people nearby for some time.

“The cause has yet to be determined,” Doug Wood, director of communications for the South Carolina Forestry Commission, said Monday. “It might be some days or even a week or two before we can get to a final cause. … .

“Horry County, particularly, is one of our hotspots around the state… . It’s very dry, very windy,” he said

A burn ban has been issued until further notice by the Horry County government. According to the Horry County Facebook page, the ban was issued as a result of weather conditions that can fuel fires such as low humidity, dryness and wind.

“All outdoor burning, including permitted burns, is strictly prohibited during the ban, and those involved in any open burning would be in violation of the law,” the county Facebook page said.
